I can recall when the first Mortal Kombat movie dropped, my friends and I were just as obsessed with the killer techno soundtrack as the movie. Musically, the Mortal Kombat franchise hasn’t lived up to those days. But that’s about to change. The new Mortal Kombat 9 videogame will feature dubstep artist like Skrillex, and electro artist like MSTRKRFT. Click through to preview this delicious soundtrack.
Claymore – An Eclectic Tale of One Woman’s Journey to Absolution
Hey there Robot Affair. I’ve been away for a while, I know, but now I’m back, ready to serve up some anime reviewing goodness. This time we’re going to take a look at a personal favorite of mine, rather newer than old. It is entitled “Claymore.” If you’re into ass kicking chicks with huge swords who fight demons, or any combination of those things, then this anime is definitely for you. It’s a bit of a fantasy/ horror mix, basking in rays of originality. Some of the characters are stereotypical, and maybe a few of the episodes, but that’s about as far as the stereo typed stick goes. Read on for my review of the new classic anime series, “Claymore.” Continue reading

The Half-Breed Vampire Hunter Returns – Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust
Here at Robot Affair I try to mix things up a bit when it come to our reviews of anime. I try to cater to the newbs, who need to know about the classics and the roots of anime in the US, as well as the vets, or those who have been following anime in the US since its’ beginning on our shores. Their needs are leaned more towards the newer anime, or maybe even the more obsolete, off the “main stream” radar, anime. In short, I try to review old and newer anime, giving each a fair share of attention. My last article was about the classic ”Vampire Hunter D.” This time, I figure, why not give them something “newer,” yet still familiar. This article will cover “Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust,” as I feel it is within reason to cover this material while the content of the last article is still fresh in your mind. Now, to find out how Bloodlust stands up to it’s predecessor, click on through…. Continue reading
The Anime That Would Set the Bar For the Vampire Genre – Vampire Hunter D
My latest review is of another classic anime feature (another of my personal favorites) of which I proclaim one of the five essential classic anime features of my generation. The others being: Akira, Ninja Scroll, Fist of the North Star, and Ghost in the Shell. Being on this list, to me, means that in some form or fashion, this feature has impacted anime fans more-so than most other anime features since the time of this film‘s original release. It is a classic tale of good versus pure evil, but it is a vampire flick with an extremely gothic tone to it. It takes place in the distant future, but in the film it seems as though most things have digressed back to a gothic period, while some thing have immensely improved over the millenia. Point in case would be the fact that they still ride horses, but the horses are robots. It’s an old school vampire flick with a huge helping of science fiction and ass kicking. Without any further disruption, here is my review of the classic, “Vampire Hunter D.” Continue reading
Zombie podcast: We’re Alive
Feeling post Walking Dead depression? So are we. While there isn’t much that can be done about the long wait for the new season of Walking Dead, there is a zombie podcast that can hold you over. We’re Alive is a quality zombie podcast that should keep you entertained.
Post – Apocalyptic Perfection! The Hardest Hero Ever Conceived – Fist of the North Star
Let me start by saying that this anime feature is one of my personal favorites. This was the second anime I ever watched, behind “Akira.” I remember this one so vividly because I had never seen an animated show with SO much violence in it. The main protagonist is the hardest character I’ve ever seen in an anime, taking on an entire army by himself throughout the movie. It’s not just violent in the way of showing a lot of fights, or killing, or anything like that. No, this movie is the goriest anime I’ve ever seen. When Kenshiro fights, he makes people’s heads explode, or rips off arms, or causes them to explode. With his FISTS! This may be the most violent anime ever created, but that is not – by far – the biggest draw to this anime feature. You shouldn’t miss this one, even though it came out in ‘86, so please, read on… Continue reading
